Chapter 27: All This Talk About Organs and Not a Single Mention of Heartstrings Being Plucked

Sun hummed happily, lounging on the couch as he fed Cadence some mashed potatoes while he sat criss cross. Cadence happily ate the mashed potatoes, lounging in Sun's lap while her back rested on his front, his head looming over her and caging her in his grasp.

She hummed, stretching her arms above her head, her arms being on either side of his neck as her back arched, whole body reminiscent of a banana for mere moments. She then started to get up, Sun letting her, and she hopped off the couch.

She made her way to the kitchen, a limp in her step as her right foot dragged on the floor slightly, and Sun sat up as his eyes widened.

"Why are you limping?!" He exclaimed.

Cadence looked at him confused, then down at her leg. "Oh, don't worry about it. I'm just on my period," She said, waving a hand dismissively.

Sun's head tilted, processing her words, before he perked up, leaning forward eagerly as he gasped, "You are in heat?!"

She chuckled, shaking her head as she said, "No, no, no. Humans do not go through a set cycle of insatiable lust and search for a partner of opposite parts. A period is the painful shedding of the inner walls of my reproductive organs and I bleed all over the place."

Sun looked down at her legs, blinking in confusion as he said, "But I don't see any blood."

She chuckled, setting her hand on her forehead as she said, "Oh you sweet little smol bean. You don't see any because I use hygienic products to prevent a mess. It can be such a painful trial, for sure, but I can usually handle it."

"What do you mean painful?" Sun asked, listening intently.

"Well, my reproductive organs essentially rips itself apart and disposes of some less-then-fresh flesh. It's like a bunch of strings are attached to the organ and push and pull and can sometimes put a woman out of commission. I've heard stories where women couldn't move because of how painful it is."

Sun then got up, scooping her into his arms and settling her onto the couch. He went and got a blanket from his room, wrapping it nice and snuggly around her. He forced her to lie down, her looking confused all the while, and sat beside her with the bowl of mashed potatoes in his lap.

"What?" She questioned, trying to sit up, but stopped as Sun gently pushed her back down.

"You are not allowed to get up until I say so! You are in pain!" Sun stated, nodding in self-satisfaction.

She chuckled, looking at him bewildered as she said, "I CAN walk, you know. I'm lucky with how it doesn't affect me too much. Doesn't your species have periods? Or, do y'all go into heat or some shit."

Sun smiled as he said, "Well, no, neither. Crossing with other species is near impossible, and in some ways, you could almost say we as a species are infertile! There have only been a handful of times that conception naturally happened between species, and in all of them, it was a male Celestial Jester with a female human!"

She nodded, eyes sliding away as she said softly, "Ah, I see..."

"Usually, we lay eggs!" Sun chirped, feeding her some more mashed potatoes, which she nearly choked on upon hearing that lore drop.

"Eggs?!" She exclaimed once she finished her bite.

"Oh yeah, you see, we can reproduce without a partner. Both male and female Celestial Jesters can get pregnant from themselves, but the females have a much easier time with it. But, as a male, I am capable of producing an egg, which I can deposit into a female during interco-" Sun babbled happily with his explanation, being silenced as Cadence's hands quickly covered his mouth.

"I get it, I get it," She said quickly, eyes looking to the side.

Sun hummed happily, resuming feeding her.

"So, let me get this straight... Your kind can't mix with other kinds naturally, except for the tiny percentage chance. That is quite surprising, seeing as how Celestial Jesters are considered as widespread as humans," She said at last after a long silence.

Sun set down the now empty bowl, nodding as he said, "You forget, twins are a common occurrence, like me and Moonie."

She nodded, humming thoughtfully. "What about Eclipse? Does he have a brother? Or, twin?" She asked.

Sun shook his head. "No, Eclipse is an only child. He would have had a twin, but our poor mother had a miscarriage and the twin died. Then Eclipse and the twin merged and that is why he has duplicates of everything," Sun explained, "And our mother had another child recently. Also an only child. Which is quite rare, when you think about it."

"And why is the norm twins?" Cadence asked curiously, trying to sit up but giving up when Sun pushed her back onto the couch.

He thought for a moment, tapping his chin as his rays folded back in thought. "I really do not know!" He said cheerfully, chuckling, "It's been such a normal thing for me that I never questioned it!"

"And for my final question, when is the soonest you will let me get up?" She asked, quirking a brow playfully.

"Not anytime soon!" Sun trilled.

She rolled her eyes as she said, "Jackass."

Sun merely giggled in response.
