Chapter 57: Oh Great, Here Comes the Second Guessing

Cadence worriedly paced in a circle, the dirt beneath her wore down to a groove in the ground as a cowboy spurr attached to her left shoulder left uniform holes in the dirt in the middle. She lightly bit her knuckles as she was muttering, "Oh, why did I have to do that, why did I have to do that?! We've only known each other for like what, a year and a half?! It took 3 before we got to that comfortable level of touching with Lava!"

She groaned, walking faster and talking quicker the more she said, "Why does one of our few lucid-like dreams have to be us WORRYING? We do enough of that when we're awake! Why can't we have another dream where we put oranges on our shoulders and get immune to fire or have our spy mission fucked up by the teammates not taking it seriously and then having to keep cover by being made of rainbow glitter and having the name of Bunny?!"

The spurr disappeared, and Cadence fell back, the world flipping around until she was standing straight again, the ground now white as far as the eye could see.

The snapping of fingers echoed around her, and she looked forward as splotches of colors started moving towards her, the splotches being dark teal, dim crimson, and a sickly yellow-green. With each snap, another splotch appeared, creating a line as they moved closer.

Cadence softly let out a lowercased screech as she turned and ran, panting as those same splotches of colors started appearing in the sky, surrounding her while the world started spinning faster and faster.

Cadence could hardly breathe, paralyzed by the colors overtaking her vision.

And suddenly, it all stopped.

She found herself in a slightly uncomfortable bed, the bed much firmer than she would like. She realized that she was completely naked, looking up as she had her head resting on Eclipse's chest, Eclipse reading a book in a language she didn't understand.

"You did so good," Eclipse murmured, and suddenly, she found herself hovering over the scene, looking down at herself laying in bed with Eclipse. "For someone who constantly compares herself to the porn she watches, I'd say you did very good for your first time," Eclipse continued, gently petting Dream Cadence's head.

"Yeah," Dream Cadence replied softly, smiling as her eyes closed, "I was worried I would be a bad partner-" She was silenced when Eclipse put a finger to her lips.

"You can't be a bad partner unless you don't even try," Eclipse murmured, "You don't need to be like everyone else; I love you for who you are."

The scene changed, world spinning to a stop as she found herself in a field of black grass, looking up at an object that looked like a cartoon heart, but made of steel with seams and bolts. The sky was mostly black, the heart back-lit by a bright red.

Three centipedes crawled all over it, them being yellow, blue, and red. The red one started at the bottom and chewed its way from the tip up the middle to the dip of the heart. Then, the steel fell away, revealing fleshy steel that beat to the rhythm as the heartbeat echoed throughout the field, the glow coming from behind the heart turning from red to yellow.

Cadence clutched over her heart, feeling it pinch and twist, tears springing to her eyes as she grinned, laughing and crying at the same time.

The ground beneath her fell away, and she found herself falling down a hole in slow motion. Eclipse's face then blocked out the light, his laughter echoing through the dark tunnel, face glowing softly.

"Cadence thinks she's unlovable!" Eclipse laughed, face slowly spinning in circles as Cadence fell deeper into the hole, "She thinks she needs to be like everyone else to be normal! She's worried about pushing away the few people she ever loved! Oh, Cadence, you're so silly! You can't see how wonderful you are because your internal mirror is broken!"

Eclipse's laughter echoed around her, and she closed her eyes as the air in the tunnel grew colder, wind rushing past her and nipping into her skin.

She opened her eyes to find herself back in her nice, comfortable bed, her blankets kicked off and leaving her exposed to the chilly temperature she likes to keep her room at. She lifted her head to blearily look at the clock, watching as it ticked to midnight.

Cadence sighed, shaking her head and curling back in bed, clutching her precious Toothless head plushie she got for her 17th birthday. She didn't want to think about that dream right now. She hoped she would have a better dream later.

She hated when her few lucid dreams nowadays were filled to the brim with her anxiety and fear and worry and concern.

Cadence sat up, blinking slowly before going and using the bathroom, then taking more melatonin gummies to try and fall asleep quicker.

Probably not the best idea, with how melatonin supposedly gives nightmares, but she takes them anyway with the hope they give her good nightmares, like the few good sleep paralysis episodes she had when she was a teen.

Laying back in bed, she curled up in her blankets, closing her eyes to go back to sleep, not knowing she won't remember this tomorrow but eventually be reminded of it from something else.

Her memory was weird like that, depending on keywords and sudden memories. Like an elephant with amnesia.
