Chapter 48: Oh, That's Why

Sun, Moon, and Eclipse all approached Cadence's door, barely having seen her the past two weeks. They knew Cadence hadn't taken a bounty, because she would always tell them.

They worried for her, so they decided to check on her.

Sun knocked on the door gently, softly calling out, "Cadence?"

They heard a muffled, "Myah?"

"Can we come in?" Sun asked softly.

When Cadence's answer was a soft 'myah', Moon stepped forward and opened the door, Cadence sitting on her bed with a large glass plate filled with peeled green fruits sitting in front of her. She used a fork to cut up the squishy fruits before eating them, licking her lips of any juice.

They all stared at her in shock, her face puffed up like a chipmunk as there were two round orbs of puffed-up skin right under her jaw.

"Hi," she muttered after she finished her bite, waving.

"What are you doing?!" Sun exclaimed.

"Eating kiwi," was Cadence's response, all 3 jesters frozen in the doorway.

"Why is your face puffed up?" Moon asked.

"Allergic," Cadence replied with a shrug.

"What's allergic-" Sun asked before getting cut off by Eclipse shoving him out of the way, the large red and black jester looking worried as he rushed over.

He took the fork from her hand, worriedly grabbing her shoulders as he exclaimed, "Why are you eating something you're allergic to?! Where's an EpiPen?!?"

"Relax, it isn't fatal," Cadence said dismissively, trying to lean away but was stopped by Eclipse's grip on her shoulders.

"It's an allergic reaction!" Eclipse exclaimed, "Your body is overreacting to the food and causing it to attack itself! So what if it isn't fatal, it's still incredibly unhealthy!"

Eclipse scooped her up, Sun and Moon moving in to dispose of the kiwi while Eclipse brought Cadence back to his room, bringing her to his bathroom and setting her on the large counter.

Eclipse gently touched her face, asking softly, "Does this hurt?"

She shook her head, and Eclipse sighed, on his tablet for a moment before there was a ding, an EpiPen for humans teleporting above his tablet.

"Ooh, a thing!" She chirped, looking at it curiously. Eclipse uncapped the pen, and once Cadence saw it was a needle, she freaked out, releasing a screech as she hurriedly tried to get off the counter away from the needle. "NEEDLLLLEE!"

Eclipse's eyes widened in surprise at her reaction, and quickly grabbed her with his lower pair of arms and restrained her, gently shushing her. "Sh, sh, sh, calm down Cadence, it's going to make you better," he cooed, trying to keep her legs still.

"NEEDLE NEEDLE NEEDLE NEEDLE!" She exclaimed, squirming, and he could barely hold her. He growled under his breath, thinking of a way to get her still.

"Cadence, relax! It's just a little shot," Eclipse gritted out, narrowing his eyes as she just howled and refused to get close to the EpiPen.

He lunged forward, capturing her mouth in a gentle kiss, his upper pair of hands tangling in her hair as he pressed himself against her. She froze, tense for a moment before slowly relaxing, his lower arms grabbing her knees and holding her in place.

Her hands fidgeted, and Eclipse gently stroked her head with his upper left hand, lower right hand going up and positioning the EpiPen to administer the medication.

His hand came down and administered the contents of the EpiPen, Cadence's eyes flying open moments later, and she screeched, Eclipse holding her still. After a couple seconds, he pulled it out and tossed it into the sink, clutching Cadence to his chest as he comforted her, stroking her head.

"Fucking NEEDLE!" She snarled, and Eclipse gently stroked her hair.

"Then don't eat kiwi," he said softly, and she simply growled.

They stayed like that for a few minutes, and when Eclipse pulled away to look at her face, he noticed the swelling had gone down significantly, and she was pouting, looking off to the side and avoiding eye contact.

"How are you feeling?" Eclipse asked softly.

"The past couple minutes didn't happen," she mumbled.

Eclipse blinked; a tad confused at her insistence of him forgetting the past couple minutes. Was she embarrassed about him seeing her reaction to the needle?

"Aw, don't want me to remember how much of a big baby you were the second you saw the needle?" Eclipse teased, "Want me to think of you as the big strong woman and not the adorable Cadence who freaks out at the sight of medical equipment?"

"You saw nothing!" She exclaimed, covering her face.

"I'm gonna see a lot more~" he purred, and Cadence squealed, huffing heavily as he leaned in close.

"Nur," she mumbled, "You ain't gon' see anything you keep this up."

"Aw, really?" He cooed, "Can't take a little teasing?"

"I'm not afraid of needles," she said quickly, "That-that was just a one-time thing. I, uh.... thought it wasn't.... sterile or... something. Yeah, like, I didn't know where that came from. Could have particles. Or something."

"Or something," Eclipse replied with a smirk, gently rubbing her back. "Want some mashed potatoes?" He asked softly, and Cadence nodded.

He smiled, picking her up and bringing her to the kitchen, setting her down. He went over to a cupboard and pulled out a packet of Mashed potatoes, humming happily as he followed the instructions and started making it.

Cadence looked in the fridge curiously, wanting to snack while he made food. Her eyes fell on a simple white bowl with what looked like smooth clingwrap over it. She curiously grabbed it, closing the fridge and peeling back the clingwrap.

Inside were a sort of honeycomb things that were a nice dark orange, with little flecks of red and bright orange inside.

Her eyebrows raised in surprise, and she curiously grabbed one, feeling the squishy and gummy object in her hand. It was maybe smaller than a ping-pong ball, and it felt almost like a gummy bear in consistency.

She curiously bit into it, the outside kind of like mochi while the inside felt almost like Jello. It tasted orangey and warm, and she nodded as she enjoyed the good taste.

This is really good, actually, wonder what it is?
