Chapter 50: Party Time!

Eclipse hummed happily, gently scrubbing his rays with his upper pair of hands as he adjusted his bowtie with his lower pair. He smirked confidently in the mirror, thinking he looked rather nice in his attire.

He smoothed out the dark blue jacket, his dark blue pants rustling as he turned and left his room. He hummed softly, passing Sun holding a box, likely replacement headphones for the headphones Sun destroyed.

When Eclipse opened the door, he saw Cadence pause, her hand reached for the handle.

"Fancy?" She asked curiously, tilting her head as she saw Eclipse dressed up.

"Yes, fancy," Eclipse replied as he stepped out of his and his brother's living quarters. "I'm celebrating tonight. I got the bounty on Squi'inner and decided to celebrate with some friends of mine."

Cadence gasped happily, her eyes lighting up as she asked happily, "You got Squee'inner? That bastard who traffics kids?" At Eclipse's nod, she squealed, hands flapping as she continued excitedly, "I've been trying to get that bounty for years! Can I come?! That asshole's death is major cause for celebration!"

Eclipse hesitated, thinking over it. "I don't think that's the best idea," he replied, "You have a... delicate palette, so to speak, and my celebrations get very... liberal, if you get what I mean."

Cadence blinked slowly, smile fading as her head tilted.

Eclipse sighed as he tried again, "We consume large amounts of alcohol and a lot of clothing gets misplaced."

Cadence's eyebrows rose, mouth opening in surprise. "Oh..." she said softly.

"You can still come, but you really should know what you're getting into," Eclipse continued, "And I do ask something of you. Since I'll be drinking as well, I'd ask if you can wear a mask, to protect you from the fumes of the alcohol. They supply the masks there."

She thought over it, pursing her lips.

"You can leave at any time," Eclipse added at her hesitation.

She perked up, smiling as she nodded, "Okay! It's not like I needed permission to leave when I want to, it's just I didn't want to, I don't know, seem rude..."

Eclipse frowned slightly, giving her an 'Are you serious' look. "Same thing," Eclipse said dismissively, setting a hand on her shoulder and starting to walk, leading Cadence down the hallway. "Just know that if you ever feel uncomfortable during it, you are completely fine to leave and sit in our transportation until either we leave or you want to come back in," Eclipse continued, "Of course, if you want to leave entirely, we can arrange that. We'll have to call what you humans call a 'taxi', because you sure aren't taking my ship." Eclipse playfully nudged her.

Cadence hummed softly as they approached the docking bay, heading to the spot reserved for Eclipse. "This isn't my main ship, just the one I use for transportation," Eclipse explained, "It's the equivalent of a car."

Cadence nodded as she replied, "Yeah, I don't have my own one. I can perfectly afford one, but I find that using the system's version of taxis for my transportation needs is like, infinitesimally cheaper than buying a car and then maintaining it."

Eclipse nodded as he replied, "Well, that makes sense." He scanned his hand on the keypad, allowing them in. "You seem quite reclusive, after all, and you don't travel much save for your bounties and health appointments."

Cadence gasped softly as she took in Eclipse's ship, the sleek black ship seeming to shimmer and shine in the light, blending with the shadows and almost phasing in and out of sight.

"That's fucking rad," Cadence breathed softly as she looked up at the sleek ship, "It's beautiful..." She stared at it with wide eyes, unmoving as she took it in.

Eclipse chuckled softly, going and unlocking the ship, which opened a small hatch where a gun with a small dish came out.

"What the fuck is that-" Cadence started to ask before she disappeared, a small sizzle echoing in the air, Eclipse disappearing moments later.

Both beings appeared moments later in the landing area of the ship, Cadence falling to her knees with a gasp. Eclipse looked at her worriedly, kneeling beside her as he asked, "Oh, I'm so sorry, I should have warned you about that."

"What the hell was that?" She wheezed, a hand over her heart.

"Displacement Ray," Eclipse explained patiently, gently rubbing her back, "It sucks up all of your atoms and then moves you rapidly to a set place. That's why you feel so warm right now, all of the particles moving so rapidly caused friction in the air."

Eclipse fetched a spray can from a shelf, pressed the nozzle, and sprayed the frosty mist over her, small snowflakes and crystals forming on her clothes and hair from the pressurized cold.

"Not teleportation?" Cadence asked softly, relaxing as she let her head fall back, letting him spray her front.

"Not teleportation," Eclipse reassured her, ensuring her torso and legs were covered in small ice crystals.

"What is that, anyway?" Cadence asked curiously as she stood up.

"Ma-dame's Chilling Breeze," Eclipse read off the can, which seemed plain blue to Cadence's eyes. He then looked at her curiously as he asked, "Why are you so against teleportation, anyway?"

"Eh, heard that it kills you in order to reassemble you at a different location, and then you die while your clone goes on to live your life with their memories," Cadence replied sheepishly, looking away embarrassed, "I'd... rather not risk it."

Eclipse tilted his head curiously, quirking a brow at her explanation. "That's... interesting," he said slowly.

Cadence giggled as she replied, "I know it sounds batshit insane, but I just don't trust teleportation technology in general."

Eclipse nodded, walking past her as he said, "Note to self, Cadence is afraid of teleportation technology. I'll keep that in mind."

"Like, it's just teleportation tech I have beef with," she explained, following him to the cockpit, "Portals are cool, displacement ray just moves you, but teleportation? Fuck that. I'd take a portal any day."

Eclipse chuckled softly, setting the directions, the ship starting up and leaving the docking bay slowly.

"There's a lot of uses for portals," Eclipse mused, "Could easily see a friend on the other side of the planet, or get something you lost somewhere in the house..." Eclipse smirked, side-eyeing Cadence as he teased, "Or... use it for other things."

Cadence's eyes widened, and she quickly shushed him, causing him to laugh.

"I never should have shown you that game," she pouted, crossing her arms.

"I did walk in on you playing it," Eclipse remarked.

"And instead of leaving the tab like I should have, I showed it to you," Cadence replied, "I am a most awesome person." Eclipse quirked a brow playfully at her words, and she huffed as she replied, "I was going to say something different but cache cleared and that was just the general idea of what the words meant."

Eclipse chuckled good-naturedly as he remarked, "You are a most curious creature, Cadence, most curious indeed."

Cadence merely rolled her eyes as she replied, "Anyway, how long is it going to take to get there?"

Eclipse thought for a moment before answering, "Maybe an hour or two." Cadence nodded, sitting down and waiting patiently. Eclipse, meanwhile, sent communications to some of his friends, ensuring their attendance at the party.
